GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Rafah crossing on Gaza's border with Egypt will open throughout Eid al-Adha for the first time, the Interior Ministry in Gaza City said Friday.
The terminal will open in both directions and travelers do not need to register in advance to cross during the Muslim holiday, which begins Oct. 26, ministry spokesman Islam Shahwan told Ma'an.
Rafah crossing is the only terminal Palestinians can use to enter or leave the Gaza Strip, and it usually closes on Muslim holidays.
Crossing director Maher abu Sabha told Ma'an that facilities at the terminal will be improved by November.
The Islamic Relief and the Islamic Development Bank are funding a $1.5 million overhaul of the terminal, and have installed air conditioning and new computer systems at the crossing.
