CAIRO, (PIC)-- Head of Al-Azhar Mosque and university Sheikh Ahmed Attayeb said that the US and European bias in favor of the Israeli regime augments the severity of tension and conflict in the Arab region and strains their relationships with Arabs.
He made his remarks during his meeting in his office on Tuesday with former US president Jimmy Carter and a galaxy of global leaders from the Elders group.
Sheikh Attayeb told Carter and his fellow leaders that the Palestinian cause is the core of the crisis in the region and there would be no lasting peace without a solution leading to the establishment of Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
For his part, Carter affirmed that the former leaders of the world in the Elders are working for peace in the region and highlight the injustice inflicted on the Palestinians in their diplomatic meetings and talks worldwide.
He noted that there are attempts underway by the Elders to reconcile between Hamas and Fatah factions and to reach a peace agreement between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
