Take Action: Gaza Ceasefire Still Not Implemented by Israel

Israeli bombing of Gaza during Operation Cast Lead
Israel bombs Gaza during "Cast Lead"
Dear Milena,

Yesterday--Dr. Martin Luther King Day--marked two years since Israel's brutal "Operation Cast Lead" came to an end.
Israel's 22-day air, sea, and land attack on the 1.5 million besieged residents of the Gaza Strip killed more than 1,400 Palestinians, injured thousands more, and deliberately destroyed billions of dollars of civilian infrastructure including homes, businesses, schools and hospitals, all through Israel's illegal misuse of U.S.-supplied radioactive and white phosphorous bombs, missiles, combat aircraft, tanks, battleships, and associated fuel and spare parts.

The Goldstone Report[1] found that Israel (and Palestinian militant groups) committed violations of human rights and international law, war crimes and possible crimes against humanity before, during, and after the massacre.

Yet, two years later, Israel has failed to implement the terms of UN Security Council Resolution 1860, which calls for:

"Unimpeded provision and distribution throughout Gaza of humanitarian assistance, including of food, fuel and medical treatment."
This resolution passed after the Bush Administration abstained from vetoing it, thanks in part to the civil society pressure we were able to mobilize.

Still, not only does Israel's illegal blockade of the occupied Gaza Strip remain intact, but Israel's leaders have not been held to account for the crimes documented in the Goldstone Report.

Both of these intolerable policies are made possible because the Obama Administration has failed to put meaningful pressure on Israel to end its illegal blockade, and has stymied the United Nations from pursuing accountability for Israel's actions.

Thank you for signing our petition demanding that the Obama Administration press Israel to end Gaza's blockade and hold its leaders accountable.

More than 12,000 people have done so already, but we're aiming to present 22,000 signatures to the Obama Administration by the end of January. You can help us reach this goal today by telling your friends about this petition.

You can also make a tax-deductible contribution to the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation to support our online ad campaign. This month, Facebook and Google have displayed our ads more than seven million times.  Donate today to educate even more people.

Thanks for everything that you do to promote human rights, international law and equality in our country's policies toward Palestine/Israel.
